Encourage Sharia Economy, MUI Prepares Five Priority Programs

JAKARTA - The Ulema Council (MUI) revealed that there are five priority programs to support the achievement of the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Abbas said that his party is also committed to being firm in supporting the development of the national sharia economy.

"This support is not only limited to providing fatwas, but is also actively involved in various strategic programs, as stated in a memorandum of understanding with Bank Indonesia," he said at the National Facilities of Sharia Economics and Finance "The Reflection on Indonesia's 80th Independence in 2025, Wednesday, August 13.

He conveyed that the scope of the cooperation covers various fields, such as strengthening the community economy, guaranteeing halal products, digitizing Islamic finance, preparing fatwas, publications, and strengthening human resource competencies (HR).

Anwar added that the priority program in supporting RPJMN 2025-2029 is the first to support increasing the competitiveness of halal industries and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

He conveyed the second program, namely collaborating to increase exports of global competitive halal products, the third is through supporting the creation of a strong halal ecosystem, including through accelerating the halal certification process.

Anwar added that the next program is to encourage the role of Islamic finance in supporting the national economy, as well as to contribute to optimizing Islamic social funds (Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, and Waqf/ZISWAF) for social protection and the welfare of the people.

He also emphasized that the role of ulama and fatwas is very crucial in ensuring that every step of sharia economic development remains in line with Islamic principles.

"The MUI has proactively carried out various activities such as the establishment of sharia pojama and the preparation of Islamic opinion on various Islamic financial instruments, we have also compiled da'wah material and carried out training of trainers or TOT to daing to spread understanding of the sharia economy to the wider community," he concluded.
