Chasing X, Threads Reaches 400 Million Monthly Active Users

JAKARTA - Threads, a microblog platform that is integrated with Instagram, has finally reached 400 million monthly active users (MAU). This achievement was announced by the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri.

In a post posted on Threads, Mosseri appreciated this achievement. Although his achievements were only revealed on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Threads has achieved this achievement since a few weeks ago.

"A few weeks ago, (there were) more than 400 million active people in Threads every month. The journey over the past two years has been incredible," Mosseri said. "We still have a lot to do, and much more to come."

Mosseri also mentioned Twitter, a platform now called X, in his post. He admitted that Threads was originally launched to rival Jack Dorsey's platform.

"Starting from a ridiculous idea to compete with Twitter, Threads has grown into a meaningful platform that encourages an open exchange of perspective. I thank all of you for making this place what it is today," Mosseri explained.

This achievement shows rapid growth in the Threads platform. The application under the auspices of Meta also managed to add 50 million monthly active users in just a quarter or three months.

Previously, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the achievement of 350 million monthly active users last April. Threads growth shows that they can be strong competitors for X.

Although X is still leading with more than 600 million monthly active users, Threads is showing a strong improvement. Based on Similarweb data, reported via TechCrunch, daily active users on X and Threads are almost the same for mobile devices.

In June 2025, the mobile application Threads on iOS and Android reached 115.1 million daily active users. This figure increased rapidly by 127.8 percent from the previous year. On the other hand, X recorded 132 million daily active users and decreased 15.2 percent on an annual basis.

The increase in the number of Threads users was driven by the launch of new features. Over the past year, Threads has introduced many features such as DM, Fediverse integration, special pass, and AI upgrades. These features contribute greatly to its growth and appeal.
