BMKG: 3 Days Ahead Of Potential Flash Floods Occurring In Aceh, Sumut, Sumbar Please Be Vigilant

JAKARTA - The Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) urges citizens to be aware of the potential for extreme weather that will run for the week ahead.

For the next 3 days for example, areas that need to be aware of potential flash floods are in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Papua.

Bmkg Deputy Of Meteorology Guswanto said that the potential for extreme weather occurs in the pancaroba period such as sporadic, heavy and short duration rain, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, even hail in a number of areas.

"This extreme weather has the potential to cause hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds, and twisters," Guswanto said in a statement, Monday, May 10.

Based on the results of the analysis of atmospheric-ocean dynamics, it shows that there is activity of Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phenomenon in The Indonesian region that is observed along with the active phenomenon of other Equatorial waves such as Kelvin wave and Equatorial Rossby.

Currently, cyclonic circulation patterns in Indonesia, namely in the Sulu Sea and West Papua, can form a meeting and slowing wind speed.

"Atmospheric conditions that are still unstable on a local scale are also able to increase the potential for strong convective which causes the formation of rain clouds to be more intensive in some areas of Indonesia," he explained.

These conditions can cause the potential for moderate to heavy rain on May 10-12, 2021 in Aceh, West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Kep.Bangka Belitung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Central Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

This condition also has the potential to rain on May 13-15, 2021 in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Kep.Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

On 16-17 May 2021 in Aceh, Kep.Riau, Bengkulu, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.
