Ada IP-CEPA, Mendag Budi Targetkan Perdagangan Indonesia-Peru Naik 2 Kali Lipat

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso targets Indonesia's trade with Peru to double, in the first year the Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IP-CEPA) was running.

Budi said that Indonesia's total trade with Peru itself was recorded at US$480 million or Rp7.81 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,289 per US dollar) in 2024. With the IP-CEPA, Indonesia-Peru trade could increase to US$960 million or Rp15.63 trillion.

"Right now, the total trade is 480 million US dollars. Later, after the implementation of CEPA, it will run at least 2 times the total trade," he said when met at Balai Kartini, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 12.

Budi said that the existence of IP-CEPA makes cooperation between the two countries easier. In fact, he said that Indonesian-made textiles and footwear also have export opportunities to Peru.

Clothing access is our textile to Peru including large footwear. We get a lot of market access for that. This is one of the ways to encourage access to our overseas market," he explained.

Separately, the Director General of International Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, revealed that most of Indonesia's exports of footwear to crude palm oil (CPO) will be subject to tariff-free.

Djatmiko also said that there were 10 main Indonesian export commodities that had received the removal and reduction of tariffs to Peru after the IP-CEPA.

"These all have received very, very good market access references. Almost everything is 0 percent. Later, a 0 percent import duty commitment will be given," said Djatmiko at a press conference at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 12.
