South Sumatra BPBD Intensifys Forest And Land Fire Prevention In Ogan Ilir Red Zone
The South Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has intensified activities to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) in areas that are in the red zone.
"Facing the peak of the dry season in August 2025, we are intensifying the prevention of forest and land fires in the red zone area, namely Ogan Ilir Regency," said Head of Emergency Management of the South Sumatra BPBD Sudirman as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 12.
He explained that Ogan Ilir Regency has become a red zone area because throughout the 2025 dry season there have been most forest and land fires.
Based on data until August 2025, there were more than 150 incidents of forest and land fires (karhutla) with a burned area of hundreds of hectares.
To prevent forest and land fires in the red zone area, his party conducts air and land patrols in areas prone to forest and land fires.
In the patrol activity, cooling activities were carried out in areas where there were hotspots and prevention or extinguishing were carried out if burned land was found.

In addition to the red zone area, his party is also aware of areas that are included in the orange zone, namely Muara Enim, Musi Banyuasin, and Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regencies.
"Through this prevention and control activity, it is hoped that it can be avoided by the occurrence of a smog disaster that can cause health problems and various community activities, as well as flights," explained Sudirman.
