Obmbudsman Still Examining Tom Lembong Complaints

Chairman of the Ombudsman Mokhammad Najih said he was still investigating the complaint from the former Minister of Trade (Mendag) Thomas Trikasih Lembong alias Tom Lembong. The goal is to determine whether or not the complaint can be followed up.

Tom Lembong previously complained about the auditor of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) who was considered unprofessional in the case of corruption in sugar importation.

"So at this stage, of course, we are still at the stage to assess whether the report from Mr. Tom Lembong and his attorney will be under the authority of the Ombudsman or not," Najih told reporters, Tuesday, August 12.

If all of them are met, the complaint will be brought to a plenary meeting led by the Ombudsman. At that stage, the decision will be determined.

"The decision of the Ombusmen leadership meeting to determine whether Pak Tom Lembong's complaint is in the realm of authority or not," he said.

"And after that the plenary team will determine the examination team from complaints about the alleged existence of the administrative mall," continued Najih.

If it is stated that it can be handled by the Ombudsman, then, there are two weeks to carry out the examination. Then, it takes one month to determine the results.

"When the Ombudsman has established the authority to examine, then we have approximately 14 days to want the process of determination and examination and 30 days to determine the results," said Najih.

It is known, in the 2015-2016 sugar import corruption case, the public prosecutor accused Tom Lembong of causing state financial losses of Rp. 578,105,411,622.47 or Rp. 578.1 billion. The figure or nominal is based on the BPKP audit.
