Rano Karno Inaugurated As Governor Of Banten In History Today, August 12, 2015

JAKARTA History today, 10 years ago, August 12, 2015, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed Rano Karno as Governor of Banten. The inauguration made Rano even more enthusiastic to immediately work to increase the lives of Banten residents.

Previously, the residents of Banten were tired. The Governor of Banten, Ratu Atut Chosiyah, was caught in a corruption case. She was proven guilty and punished. This condition made President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) move quickly. Jokowi immediately dismissed Atut from his position as Governor of Banten.

Atut's extension as Governor of Banten from 2007 received criticism. He is like building a political dynasty in Banten. Members of his family then appeared on the political map of Banten, from executive to legislative levels.

As a result, the Atut family gained access to control and use of regional budgets. The practice of corruption is increasingly rampant. The students have repeatedly held actions related to corruption in Banten. However, this action did not make the Banten leader aware.

Everything changed when the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) intervened. They sniffed out that there were many corrupt practices of collusion and nepotism (KKN) in Banten. This practice led to Atut. The governor of Banten has bribed Akil Mochtar Rp1 billion related to the results of the Lebak Pilkada dispute.

The assessment was carried out so that the Constitutional Court was equal in winning the lawsuit of the candidate pair for regent/deputy regent Amir Hamzah-Kasmin in the 2013 Lebak Pilkada. This condition made Atut sentenced to four years in prison on September 1, 2014.

Atut's verdict made Jokowi take a stand. He dismissed Atut from the position of Governor of Banten on July 29, 2015. The decision was greeted with a commotion by all Banten residents. The termination was confirmed by the issuance of Presidential Decree (Kepres) Number 63/P of 2015.

"The presidential decree for the dismissal of Mrs. Atut as Governor of Banten only came down after it was announced in the plenary session of the Banten Provincial DPRD. After it was approved by the President through the Minister of State Secretary, only the presidential decree (Rano Karno's appointment) was issued and the inauguration would be proposed at the State Palace by the President," said the Minister of Home Affairs, Tjahjo Kumolo as quoted by the COMPASS.com page, July 29, 2015.

Jokowi immediately gave instructions for the Deputy Governor of Banten, who is concurrently the Acting Governor of Banten, Rano Karno, to be appointed governor of Banten. The day he was waiting for arrived. President Jokowi appointed Rano Karno as the new Governor of Banten at the State Palace on August 12, 2015.

Rano also expressed his readiness as a leader of Banten. He promised to pursue all kinds of development in Banten. The narrative is echoed so that Banten residents can feel the government's presence to increase their lives.

"I was inaugurated by the President as Governor of Banten, Insya Allahdi, the rest of my 2012-2017 term of service I will pursue for the development of Banten Province. That is indeed the basis. But, now what we are focusing on is the dry season. There have been many droughts in the Banten area.

Even though in some areas, in the midst of this dry season there is still a big harvest. Today there is a big harvest in Lebak. That's just a matter of decision. If it's based on the Minister of Home Affairs, there's no need for representatives because it's only 17 months left. But if there is a representative, for me there's no problem. I have a representative at work, there is no representative for me to work for," said Rano as quoted by the ANTARA page, August 12, 2015.
