Meta Will Showcase The Advanced VR Headset Protype Named Tiramisu
JAKARTA Meta shared a preview of its recent virtual reality (VR) prototype. The VR development project is named Tiramisu and is believed to have a much better capability than other headsets.
The Tiramisu project is claimed to be a hyperrealistic VR with specifications far beyond the Meta Quest 3 device. This prototype promises a triple contrast, a maximum brightness of 14 times, and an angular resolution of 3.6 times higher than that model.
This figure is equivalent to a brightness peak of 1,400 nits and an angular resolution of 90 pixels per degree. With this high brightness, the headset developed by Reality Labs is believed to be the latest VR device milestone.
"Tiramisu is the first in the industry, which combines the benefits of resolution over the retina with significantly enhanced brightness to establish a new milestone for realism in VR," Meta wrote in its blog, quoted on Monday, August 11.
Specifically, this model was developed by the Optical, Photonic, and Light System (OPALS) team from Reality Labs. The team built Tiramisu to create an indistinguishable VR experience from the real world.
This ability is often referred to as a visual Turing test. Xuan Wang, an OPALS Optical Researcher Scientist, said they wanted to provide the best image quality with a brightness level that could not be found in other VR headsets.

Although Tiramisu has extraordinary image quality, there are several sacrifices made. This device has a limited field of view, only 33x33 degrees. This field of view is much smaller than the Meta Quest 3 which has a field of view of 110x96 degrees.
This sacrifice was carried out to ensure image quality remains a top priority. Apart from Tiramisu, Meta also introduced another prototype called the Boba 3. This headset focuses on VR and mixed reality (MR) with an ultra-wide field of view.
Tiramisu and Boba 3 will be on display at the SIGGRAPH 2025 conference in Vancouver. This event will be an opportunity for the public to see firsthand the latest technology being developed by Meta.
