BMKG Monitor Hilal For Two Days In 29 Points To Determine Eid Al-Fitr 2021
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) conducted a two-day monitoring of the early hilal of Syawal 1442 Hijri on May 11 and 12 at 29 points throughout Indonesia.
"In determining the beginning of Syawal 1442 H, BMKG will carry out Rukyatul Hilal for 2 (two) days, namely on May 11 and 12, 2021 in 29 locations in Indonesia," said Head of Seismological Center for Engineering, Potential Geophysics and Time Signature BMKG Rahmat Triyono in his written statement, reported antara, Monday, May 10.
Monitoring was conducted among others in Lake Sentani Papua, Sarmi Regent Building of Papua Province, Rooftop Hotel Kriyad Papua, Tugu Christina Ambon, Tower Observatory hilal BMKG Ternate, Wolulu Sulteng beach.

According to BMKG, the conjunction (Ijtimak) of the beginning of Syawal 1442 H occurred on Wednesday 12 May 2021 A.D., at 01.59.47 WIB or 02.59.47 WITA or 03.59.47 WIT, so it can be concluded that in the territory of Indonesia conjunctions (ijtimak) occur before sunset. The earliest in Merauke at 17.37.16 WIT and the last at 18.46.31 WIB in Sabang, Aceh.
Hilal data dated May 11, 2021 is hilal height ranging from -5.61° in Jayapura to -4.37° in Pelabuhan Ratu, West Java. Elongation ranges from 4.56° in Banda Aceh to 5.87° in Waris, Papua.
While on May 12, the hilal height ranged from 4.48° in Merauke to 6.05° in Sabang. Elongation ranges from 5.31° in Merauke to 6.74° in Sabang. The age of the month ranges from 13.45 hours in Merauke to 16.78 hours in Sabang. It ranges from 22.57 minutes in Merauke to 29.50 minutes in Sabang.
The monthly illumination fraction ranges from 0.22 percent in Merauke to 0.35 percent in Sabang, Aceh. The object of the Celestial body that can be mistaken as a hilal is Venus, 5° smaller than the moon.
"Based on the data of the initial Hilal Syawal 1442 H above, due to the position of hilal minus, the hilal will not be observed on May 11, 2021. While on May 12, 2021 based on astronomy and hilal record data seen by BMKG and if the weather is sunny (especially on the Western horizon), the potential of hilal looks very large," he said.
