Carbon Exchange Transaction Reaches IDR 77.95 Billion Until August 2025

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) emphasizes that sustainability issues remain a top priority in developing capital markets and carbon trading transactions on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) showing a positive growth trend.

Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Mahendra Siregar, said that this achievement reflects OJK's commitment to encouraging the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles among issuers.

Mahendra said that until August 2025, the value of carbon exchange transactions had reached Rp77.95 billion, with a trading volume of 1.59 million tons of CO2 equivalent.

"OJK consistently oversees the absorption of environmental, social, and governance principles in all lines of the financial services industry. In the past year, the value of Indonesia's carbon exchange transactions has continued to increase, with a value on August 8, 2025 reaching IDR 77.95 billion," he said at the Trade Opening Ceremony in 48 Years. Mahendra conveyed that in the future, with the launch of international carbon trading through the Indonesian carbon exchange, the transaction value on the carbon exchange is expected to continue to increase.

He added that the OJK also continues to strive to strengthen regulations to increase market players' capacity and encourage innovation in the implementation of the ESG to create a more inclusive and sustainable capital market in national development.

Mahendra said that based on data as of Friday, August 8, 2025, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed at 7,533.39, or strengthened by 6.41 percent year-to-date (ytd) with market capitalization also increased 9.88 percent to Rp13,555 trillion.

He added that in the 48th anniversary of the re-activation of the Indonesian Capital Market, the theme "Realizing an Independent, Sovereign, and Maju Bersama Economy" also emphasized a joint commitment in supporting the government's Asta Cita program, especially in strengthening the role of the capital market to encourage national economic independence.

This is done by opening wider access to the community, strengthening economic sovereignty, and accelerating the transformation towards a prosperous, advanced and modern Indonesia.

"This theme is also in line with the theme of Indonesia's independence anniversary this year, the sovereignty of the people of Indonesia's prosperous progress," he concluded.
