When One Stabs This Woman's IDR 706 Million 'Short' Teeth In Medan, The Police Have Arrested The Gang Of Perpetrators

MEDAN - That night, LS (52), a resident of Medan, never imagined that a brief transaction at a Selayang gas station ATM gallery would change his life. Rp706 million, the savings he collected over the years, disappeared in just an hour.

It all started when his ATM card couldn't read the machine. A man who looked friendly approached, offering help.

LS, who was anxious, thought it was sincere help. In fact, behind that good attitude tucked away by a trick.

The LS card was secretly exchanged, the PIN was memorized, and a few hours later, his account was drained at another ATM machine.

North Sumatra Police General Crime Director Kombes Ricko Taruna Mauruh said LS was not the only victim.

The group of perpetrators consisting of four men operate across provinces, from Medan, Riau, to South Tangerang, targeting random victims.

The mode is to block the ATM card slot using a modified toothpaste, then take advantage of the victim's panic to exchange cards.

"Two of these perpetrators are recidivists with a long record of similar cases," said Ricko, quoted from Antara, Sunday, August 10.

The police arrested the perpetrators separately in Medan, Riau, and Tangerang on July 25, 2025.

From their hands, dozens of modified ATM cards, pawnshops, motorcycles, and clothes were confiscated in action.

Now, the perpetrators are charged with Article 363 subsidiary Article 362 of the Criminal Code with a maximum threat of nine years in prison.

Ricko reminded the public to always be vigilant when transacting at ATMs, especially if there are foreigners who offer assistance.

"Never get out of control. It's better to cancel the transaction and seek official assistance," he said.
