Prioritize User Education, New LMKN Commissioner Make Sure Not To Choose A Criminal Path
JAKARTA - Dedy Kurniadi, one of the Commissioners of the newly inaugurated National Collective Management Institute (LMKN), emphasized that his party will not prioritize the criminal legal process in carrying out the task of managing music royalties.
This was conveyed by Dedy in response to the fears of cafe and restaurant owners who recently preferred not to play music due to royalty problems.
This fear is increasingly widespread when Mie Gacoan managers in Bali must be faced with a police report, before finally the problem is resolved through mediation.
"It is not in a place for LMKN to urge the interests of this creator by enforcing criminal law in front," said Dedy at the Office of the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum), Jakarta, recently.
According to Dedy, the previous LMKN response that had expressed support for criminal efforts for cafe and restaurant owners who did not pay royalties was an excessive reaction.
He felt that the lack of maximum royalties collection from copyrighted users was closely related to the understanding that had not been conveyed properly.

"Basically, according to observations so far, it has something to do with the uninduced community," he said.
Furthermore, while waiting for the determination of a new royalty rate, Dedy ensured that his party would provide further understanding to copyrighted users.
"LMKN will seriously seek everything that has become the right of copyright holders or related rights holders," said Dedy.
"It will be sought to be taken peacefully, and necessary with understanding. That is, maybe so far there has been no strong understanding from the community regarding the rights of the creator and holder of related rights," he said.
