Jakarta Fire Department Recruitment Requires a Minimum Height of 165 Centimeters and High School Graduates, Here's Why

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Provincial Government will open recruitment for firefighters (damkar) on Tuesday, August 12th. However, there are certain requirements for those who wish to apply.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that one of the requirements applicants must meet is a minimum height of 165 centimeters.

"There's a requirement to be physically fit and also a height of 165 centimeters. That's something that's not available elsewhere," Pramono said in his statement on Sunday, August 10th.

Furthermore, unlike the PPSU recruitment, which allows elementary school graduates to apply, the selection process for the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) requires applicants to be at least high school graduates or equivalent.

During the selection process, the Jakarta Gulkarmat Service will also collaborate with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to conduct physical tests for applicants.

"Why is this necessary? Because we are preparing for this firefighter force to truly be people who are willing to work well. This firefighter force is currently receiving extraordinary appreciation, and we are maintaining that," Pramono explained.

Registration for firefighters will be conducted online by each city's Fire and Rescue Sub-Department.

"I have decided that registration for the Jakarta Provincial Fire and Rescue Agency, or Damkar, will begin on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for three days," explained Pramono.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is opening 1,000 positions for firefighters: 202 in West Jakarta, 187 in Central Jakarta, 211 in South Jakarta, 219 in East Jakarta, and 181 in North Jakarta.

"For the Thousand Islands, the situation is still under investigation and will be coordinated by the Regent of the Thousand Islands," he added.
