Betung-Tempino-Jambi Toll Road is Ready for Operation, Public Works Minister Says: It Will Reduce Travel Time for the Logistics Sector
JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo stated that the presence of the Betung-Tempino-Jambi Toll Road, Section 4 of Tempino-Ness Interchange, strengthens the connectivity of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road.
Dody stated that the toll road is needed to accelerate the distribution of goods and services, increase efficiency, and lower transportation costs.
"Because it is expected to reduce travel time between regions in the logistics sector, it is hoped that it will encourage the growth of new economic centers," Dody said in a written statement on Sunday, August 10, as reported by Antara.
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) participated in the Function and Operational Feasibility Test (ULFO) on the Betung-Tempino-Jambi Toll Road, Section 4 of Tempino-Ness Interchange, in Muara Jambi Regency.
The inspection was carried out to ensure that all technical specifications, requirements, and equipment of the toll road comply with traffic management and safety standards to ensure the safety and comfort of toll road users in accordance with the Minimum Service Standards (SPM).
The Functionality and Operational Feasibility Test is the final step before the operation of Section 4 of the Betung – Tempino – Interchange Ness Toll Road, following the receipt of a Functionality Certificate from the Directorate General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation and a Certificate of Operational Feasibility (SLO) from the Directorate General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works.
The inspections included aspects of the main road structure, shoulders, drainage systems, and safety signs. They also reviewed the completeness of the administrative documents required for operational certification.
Technically, construction of the Betung – Tempino – Jambi Toll Road Section at Tempino – Interchange Ness is currently in the final stages of accelerated completion, with land completion at 99.76 percent and physical progress at 93.03 percent. Construction of Section 4 of the Betung – Tempino – Jambi Toll Road is targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2025.
The completion of Section 4 of the Tempino – Interchange Ness Toll Road is expected to reduce travel times and streamline the flow of goods from industrial centers in South Sumatra to Jambi and vice versa. Previously, Section 3 of the Bayung Lencir-Tempino Toll Road, spanning 34.10 kilometers (km), was fully operational.
The travel time from Bayung Lencir, located on the border of South Sumatra Province, to Jambi City via the Trans-Sumatra Highway takes approximately 3 hours. With the operation of Section 4 of the Betung-Tempino-Jambi Toll Road, the travel time from the Bayung Lencir-Ness Interchange to the Ness Interchange will be reduced to 45 minutes.
The Betung-Tempino-Jambi Toll Road is 170.73 km long and divided into four sections. Section 1, Betung-Tungkal Jaya, spanning 62.38 km, is being constructed by the implementing contractors PT Adhi Karya, PT Waskita Karya, and PT Jaya Konstruksi in two packages: Package 1A, spanning 30.80 km, with construction progress reaching 42 percent as of July 25, 2025, and Package 1B, spanning 31.58 km, with construction progress at 2.75 percent.
Furthermore, Section 2 Tungkal Jaya – Bayung Lencir, 55.76 km long, is being worked on by the contractor PT PP (Persero) Tbk - PT Nindya Karya (KSO) in 2 work packages, namely Section 2A, 37.36 km long with 8.7% physical progress and Section 2B, 18.40 km long with 13.5 percent progress. Then Section 3 Banyung Lencir – Tempino, 34.10 km long, has been operational at the end of 2024 and Section 4 Tempino – Interchange Ness in Muara Jambi Regency.
