Iran Arrests 20 Israeli Mossad Agents

JAKARTA - Iran has arrested 20 people suspected of being Israeli Mossad spy agents in recent months. The Iranian court confirmed they would not get leniency.

Iran previously executed a nuclear scientist named Rauzbeh Vadi. He was convicted of spying for Israel and leaked information about other nuclear scientists killed in Israeli airstrikes against Iran in June, state media reported.

Reported by Reuters on Saturday, August 9, Judicial Spokesman Asghar Magargiri said the charges against some of the 20 arrested suspects were dropped and they were released.

But Majangiri did not mention the amount.

"The judiciary will not tolerate the spies and agents of the Zionist regime, and with firm verdicts, will make them all an example," Sapangiri was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

He said the full details would be announced to the public after the investigation was complete.

The execution of Iranians convicted of spying for Israel has increased significantly this year, with at least eight death sentences having been implemented in recent months.

Israel launched 12 days of airstrikes against Iran in June, targeting top Iranian generals, nuclear scientists, nuclear installations, and settlements. Iran responded with a series of missiles and drones to Israel.

Human rights group HRANA reported 1,190 Iranian deaths during the 12 days of Israeli attacks, including 436 civilians and 435 security personnel.

Israel said 28 people were killed in Iran's retaliation.
