Kodam Jaya Finds Lots Of Plastic Waste In West Jakarta Flood Canal

JAKARTA - The Jayakarta Regional Military Command (Kodam) found a lot of plastic waste while carrying out cleaning activities in the West Flood Canal area, West Jakarta.

"How many is the maximum. So today we are carrying out cleaning activities until the afternoon. Earlier, some were seen as having started to carry out several garbage trucks, most of which I saw were plastic waste," said Jayakarta Military Commander Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi after carrying out a clean-up action in the West Flood Canal area, Tambora, West Jakarta, Saturday.

The activity, which carries the theme "The Simultaneous Territorial Attack of Kodam Jaya", was held to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

The clean-up action was carried out using a rubber boat, starting at around 08.00 WIB.

In addition to plastic, personnel also found mattresses, chairs, and various other types of household waste that were thought to have come from outside the surrounding area.

"Earlier, when cleaning, there were also mattresses, chairs, and others. I think this is sent, not only from here but there are garbage from several places as well," said Deddy.

Furthermore, he explained that the activities that were carried out for the first time at the West Flood Canal would then be carried out consistently.

His party also determines priority points for handling, both with human labor and heavy equipment from the Ministry of Public Works (PU).

"If there are points that cannot be reached by heavy equipment, we use human force. We will see the conditions in two to three weeks, we will do it again, or if necessary every week on Saturday. Residents who see can be moved to participate," explained Deddy.

The waste collected in the activity was immediately transported to a temporary disposal site (TPS).

He also hopes that these activities can raise public awareness to maintain environmental cleanliness in order to prevent flooding.

"This is one of our programs, taking care of each other with the community. Keeping clean, maintaining security, maintaining green, even sports, we must all do it together," said Deddy.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of West Jakarta, Uus Kuswanto, appreciated the river cleaning activities held at the West Flood Canal with the Jaya Military Commander and his staff.

According to him, this activity can be an inspiration for residents to continue to maintain river cleanliness.

"I express my gratitude and appreciation for the clean-up activities of the times, especially in the West Flood Canal. Hopefully this will inspire West Jakarta residents to keep the river clean," said Uus.

He emphasized that the West Jakarta City Government is committed to continuing to care for and maintain river cleanliness by involving all parties, from the TNI, Polri, to the community.

The river cleaning action is included in the Earth Guard movement, which targets waste at several priority points as a source of buildup.

Keeping the Earth is one of the pillars of the program that focuses on river maintenance, waste management, public facilities, and green space with the aim of encouraging community participation to care about environmental cleanliness.
