Beat Naomi Osaka, Victoria Mboko's Tennis Player Wins Canada Open 2025

JAKARTA Victoria's young tennis player Mboko beat former world number one, Naomi Osaka, to secure her first WTA title in her career.

The Canadian 18-year-old athlete came from behind to stop owners of four Grand Slams with final scores 2-6, 6-4, and 6-1 on Friday, August 8, 2025.

Mboko came to this tournament with wildcard facilities. This is also his first appearance at the tournament which has the WTA 1000 level.

"I'm very happy to be playing in Montreal for the first time. I feel nervous, that's all I remember, but really enjoy this moment," Mboko said.

Mboko started this year from the 333rd in the world. However, he is likely to move up to 34th after a sensational victory recorded in Montreal.

On his way to winning the title, Mboko beat four Grand Slam champions in total. Apart from Osaka, he also stopped Coco Gauff, Sofia Kenin, and Elena Rybakina.

"When I won my first round, I was very happy and very satisfied. I never thought I could reach the final, let alone win the tournament," said Mboko.

While appearing at home at the Canada Open 2025, Mboko was recorded to have to rise from behind a set and then win on three occasions.

When playing the final match, he had difficulty finding his rhythm in the first set and made 22 mistakes himself so that Osaka was able to win in 38 minutes.

Mboko previously appeared in two Grand Slam events this year. He was recorded at the third round at the French Open and was stopped in the second half at Wimbledon.

The US Open 2025, which starts on August 24, 2025, will be the next Grand Slam tournament Mboko will face.
