Still Nge-Jazz, BRI Jazz Gunung Series 3 Inspector General Don't Leave Local Music Elements
BANYUWANGI - Mount Indonesia Jazz is preparing to hold BRI Jazz Gunung Series 3 Ijen at Amfiteater Taman Gandrung Terakota, Jiwa Jawa Resort, Banyuwangi tomorrow, Saturday, August 9.
Slightly different from last year's event where all the performers, as stated by Indra Lesmana, were jazz musicians, this year Mount Indonesia Jazz tries to embrace local elements in Banyuwangi.
"We learn that this is a festival, a place where people can find something new and familiar," said Bagasposatmono, CEO of Mount Indonesia Jazz, in a media gathering at Hotel Santika Banyuwangi, Friday.
Bagas is aware of his obligations as the organizer of the jazz music festival, jazz musicians certainly get more portions. But in addition, locality is an element that cannot be abandoned. Therefore, a new formula is tried by presenting the most known local singer in Banyuwangi, Suliyana.
"We want to prove that actually when we say this is a jazz festival, content generally has to be jazz," said Bagas.
"Except for last year's Mount Ijen Jazz, we always combine elements of other music. This time we combine Banyuwangi pop musicians," he continued.

Besides Suliyana, there is Patrol Kawitan Jazz, a music group from Banyuwangi that combines patrol music whose instruments are made of bamboo with a jazz spirit.
Then there is Surabaya Heroes Jazz, a jazz community that consistently spreads jazz in East Java.
With their presence next to other Indonesian musicians and singers such as Dua Empat, Irsa Destiwi, Kevin Yosua, and Nita Aartsen, it is hoped that jazz will be increasingly recognized in the community.
The presence of musicians and spectators from abroad continues to increase, it is also hoped that Indonesian jazz can be more widely known.
This year there are jazz players from America, Poland and France. Here we say there is one acculturation of the budyaa to get to know each other. Those from abroad can know what kind of Indonesian jazz is, and on the contrary, Indonesian jazz musicians can learn how jazz is played in a festival," concluded Bagas Kandiatmono.
