Instagram Map Feature Reaps Criticism Because Locations Are Distributed Without Permit
JAKARTA - Meta has just released many Instagram features, including an interactive map feature similar to Snapchat's. Through this feature, users can share locations with friends.
But apparently, this map feature still gives rise to the pros and cons of users. Because, the newly launched feature is called, by default installing the user's location on the map.
This problem arose after several accounts uploaded a sharp question addressed to the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri.
One of those who also asked questions was the Threads account belonging to @dianaurban which said, "So why do so many users report that their location is displayed on the map by default?"
He also added that many users should repeatedly try to turn off the feature.
Responding to the complaint, the Mosseri account provided clarification by explaining the "Quick Friend Map" feature. Where this feature allows users to share their location with their closest friends.
"We checked everything, but so far it looks like most people are confused, because they can see themselves on the map when they open, others can also see them," Mosseri said.
He emphasized that Meta continues to ensure that no one shares the location without the consent of each user.
"We ask you to confirm after you say you want to share," he explained.

But unfortunately, Mosseri's answer looked unsatisfactory. Another account named @simplyy.eden responded again and said that his friends could still see the location even though he had deactivated the feature.
No, no one is confused. My friends took a screenshot of my location and sent it to me while we were trying to delete it. You're not listening to your users," he said.
He also added, "I've deactivated it through the app and on the phone, but it's still showing up. So, there's no dual agreement. You and your parents are wrong. Just admit it."
