The World's First 9-Volt Battery-Flavored Corn Chips, Dare to Try?
JAKARTA - A Dutch snack company recently launched a unique product that has captured the attention of many. They introduced tortilla chips flavored with a 9-volt battery, a flavor that likely evokes childhood memories for 90s kids.
If you grew up in the 90s, you've probably experienced licking the end of a battery and feeling the distinctive sharp sensation. It was a popular trend among kids at the time.
As reported by Oddity Central, snack brand Rewind is trying to capitalize on that nostalgia. They believe curiosity will attract many people to try 9-volt battery-flavored tortilla chips.
Of course, creating a battery-like flavor without making it dangerous is no easy feat. Rewind ensures that they don't use any battery components and that all ingredients are safe for consumption.
Mattias Larsson, chef and flavorist at Rewind, acknowledges this challenge.
"This was a truly unusual request. We used a mixture of citric acid and sodium bicarbonate to create a tingling sensation on the tongue, then balanced it with mineral salts that impart a metallic taste," said Mattias.
"The result turned out delicious, and it's definitely a curious taste," he continued.
Furthermore, Antti Lauronen, head of creative and design at Paulig, explained that the Rewind brand is inspired by nostalgia.
"We thought, what better way to launch a product than with one of the most memorable nostalgic experiences, a delicious tribute to that universally strange memory that feels like a carefree afternoon as a teenager," he said.
Currently, Rewind tortilla chips are only available in the Netherlands. However, the company plans to expand its market across Europe soon. So, you might have a chance to try these uniquely flavored chips.
