PLN EPI And Indramayu Regency Government Sign Biomass Development Agreement For Cofiring

JAKARTA - PT PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) and the Indramayu Regency Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a biomass-based energy ecosystem, especially in areas with abundant agricultural, plantation and forestry potentials, such as Indramayu.

Director of Biomass of PLN EPI, Hokkop Situngkir, said that this collaboration is a strategic step in developing the national biomass ecosystem.

"Through this collaboration, we encourage the use of agricultural waste, forestry waste, and urban waste as raw materials that will be used in the PLTU cofiring program. Our target in 2025 is to achieve the utilization of biomass by 3 million tons, up almost twice from the previous year," said Hokkop, Friday, August 8.

Furthermore, Hokkop emphasized that the approach taken by PLN EPI in utilizing biomass not only focuses on the technical aspects of operations, but also includes empowering local communities, including through the use of critical and marginal lands that are not yet productive.

The Regent of Indramayu, Lucky Hakim, welcomed this initiative and assessed that the cooperation was in line with the vision of Indramayu's development to become an area that is advanced, competitive, and sustainable.

"We believe that this collaboration will create added value, open up new job opportunities, and provide direct benefits for the community, both from an economic and environmental perspective. We hope that this memorandum of understanding will be followed up immediately with concrete and implementative steps by our BUMD and PLN EPI," he said.

This Memorandum of Understanding encourages closer synergy between PLN EPI and the Indramayu Regional Government in supporting the resilience of national energy in a sustainable manner.
