Budiman Sudjatmiko: There Is No Reason PDIP Has A Position With Prabowo's Government

Head of the Agency for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction, Budiman Sudjatmiko, assessed that there was no reason for the PDI-P to have an opposition with President Prabowo Subianto's Government.

This was conveyed by Budiman in response to the attitude of PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri who stated that PDIP would not become an opposition. According to him, this attitude is a natural thing.

"There is no very strategic issue that makes PDIP fight the government. No need, because there is no problem," he said, Thursday, August 7.

Regarding the increasingly intimate PDI-P with the Gerindra Party, Budiman assessed that political cooperation should not always be realized in the form of cabinet seats. Cooperation does not have to have ministers in the cabinet, but many other things can be done. For example, collaboration in the DPR," he said.

Budiman, who is preparing to join Gerindra, considers the closeness of these two parties to be a positive thing. According to him, President Prabowo Subianto does have the spirit to embrace all parties who have the same vision to build the nation.

"If Pak Prabowo wants to embrace all of them, especially if there is a common vision. In my opinion, it is very good," he said.

The signal of the closeness of PDIP and Gerindra has begun to strengthen since President Prabowo's statement that the two parties were like brothers at the inauguration of the Red and White Village Cooperative in Klaten, Central Java, on July 21, 2025.

This intimacy became even more striking when Prabowo issued Presidential Letter Number R-42 / Pres / 07/2025 which granted amnesty to Hasto Kristiyanto, former secretary general of PDIP. Hasto was previously sentenced to 3.5 years in prison in the bribery case of PAW Harun Masiku.

In addition, in the closing of the 6th PDIP Congress in Bali on August 2, 2025, Megawati reiterated that PDIP would not be an opposition, even though it did not join the Prabowo government cabinet.

Budiman himself has a political history closely related to the two parties. During the 2024 presidential election, even though he was still a PDIP cadre, he openly supported Prabowo-Gibran, until he was finally fired.

After that, Budiman joined the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team as deputy chairman of the expert council and now serves as head of the Poverty Reduction Acceleration Agency.
