A Coffee Shop in Melawai South Jakarta Caught Fire, Losses Reach IDR 500 Million
JAKARTA - A total of 73 personnel from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) extinguished a fire at the Ruang Kopi cafe on Sunan Ngampel Street, Melawai, Kebayoran Baru.
"A total of 21 units, or 73 personnel, were deployed," said Syamsul Huda, Head of the South Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency, on Friday, August 8, 2025.
He initially stated that his team arrived at the scene at 4:57 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), deploying five units.
According to cafe employees, smoke was coming from the kitchen on the first floor. They then attempted to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher (APAR).
"They then reported to the Fire Department to request assistance with the fire," said Syamsul.
The fire was brought under control at 5:25 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), and initial cooling operations began at 5:29 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
"We are currently working to extinguish the fire, and it is suspected that the cause was an electrical fault," said Syamsul.
The fire covered an area of 400 square meters, with estimated losses reaching Rp 500 million.
There were no injuries or fatalities from the fire.
