Google Encourages Students To Think Critically By Launching Guided Learning On Gemini

JAKARTA Google announced a new feature at Gemini. The Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based chatbot now offers a feature called Guided Learning for students or people who want to learn.

The launch of this feature was announced directly by Stuart Miller, APAC's Head of Marketing for Education, when revealing their efforts to encourage the Gemini for Education program.

"Today, we are proud to introduce a new Gemini feature called Guided Learning," Stuart said on Thursday, August 8. "This is not just a research tool, it is a tool of thought. Guided Learning (will) take issues, concepts, or topics that are difficult to discuss in detail."

This new feature will be located in the prompt typing box, precisely between the Deep Research and Canvas menus. If the user activates the feature, a simple question will be answered in detail with the required stages.

More fully the prompt submitted, users will get a more detailed response. Guided Learning will provide multimodal responses, ranging from standard text, images, diagrams, videos, to interactive quizzes.

In a recent report that Google shared, Guided Learning was developed based on the results of research and partnerships over the years with educators and experts. This research began in 2022 with the formation of a cross-disciplinary team.

The team consists of AI experts, neuroscientists, and cognitive scientists. With various insights collected over the years, Google also created LearnLM for educational needs. This ability began to be instilled into Gemini 2.5.

Guided Learning is also based on educators' concerns. Since the emergence of AI, many are worried that students tend to have a brief understanding. Therefore, Google launched this feature to encourage users to think critically.
