Komdigi Affirms The Importance Of The Role Of AI In Fighting Digital Crimes

JAKARTA - The surge in digital crime is increasingly worrying. Data from the Ministry of Communication and Digital reveals that 64% of spam activity occurs through cellular channels, with more than half of it coming from malware and fraud via SMS.

In fact, in just three months from November 2024 to January 2025, financial losses due to digital crimes reached Rp476 billion.

"Until the beginning of 2025, there have been 1.5 million reports of digital fraud that we have recorded," said the Deputy Minister of Communication and Trade, Nezar Patria, on Thursday, August 7 in Jakarta.

According to him, these figures are not just statistics, but a warning so that the government and other stakeholders can act faster in dealing with digital crimes in the country.

"For this reason, the government is fully committed to creating a safe, clean and successful digital space for the entire community," he said further.

Nezar also emphasized that new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning must be a concrete solution in the face of digital crime, not just an innovation jargon.

This is also in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita's vision to strengthen national technology sovereignty. He emphasized that maintaining the security of public data is part of digital sovereignty.

"We must also ensure that one new technology or deep tech such as artificial intelligence and machine learning is not only a jargon in the innovations we carry out, but is really a real solution for society," he said.
