The Rise Of Foreigners In Bali, Commission XIII Of The House Of Representatives Values The Establishment Of An Immigration Task Force Is Right

Member of Commission XIII DPR RI, Mafirion assessed that the establishment of the Immigration Patrol Task Force (Satgas) to deal with the rise of cases of immigration violations and criminal acts involving foreign nationals (WNA) in Bali was appropriate. He also supports the Task Force to strengthen supervision of foreigners in Bali a number of strategic points on the Island of the Gods.

"I fully support the establishment of this Immigration Patrol Task Force. Its presence is urgently needed to strengthen law enforcement against foreigners who behave criminally and cause unrest, both for Indonesians and fellow foreigners," Mafirion told reporters, Thursday, August 7.

According to Mafirion, the trend of crimes committed by foreigners in Bali has shown a significant increase in the last three years. Data from the Bali Police noted that in 2022 there were 59 criminal cases involving foreigners. This number rose to 60 cases in 2023 and jumped dramatically to 133 cases in 2024.

In fact, said Mafirion, based on data from the Directorate General of Immigration, there was a sharp spike in immigration administration actions. In the November period of December 2024, there were 607 cases of deportation and 303 cases of leniency.

However, in the period January 'June 2025, the number increased dramatically to 2,669 deportations and 2,009 levies. A total of 62 foreigners have also been legally processed for various violations.

"We must not allow foreigners to act arbitrarily and commit crimes in the country. This is not an ordinary crime, but an organized crime that destroys people's sense of security. If they are not dealt with firmly, these actions will continue to repeat themselves," said Mafirion.

The member of the commission in charge of human rights (HAM) also emphasized the importance of taking action without selective logging.

"Every violation committed by foreigners must be processed legally before being subject to administrative sanctions, such as deportation," said Mafirion.

It is known that a series of foreign crimes cases that surfaced this year, especially in Bali, further strengthen the urgency of the formation of the Task Force. One of the most horrendous is the shooting by a foreign group from Australia that killed another foreigner on June 14, 2025.

Earlier, in February 2025, a Russian criminal group carried out an armed robbery against a foreigner from Ukraine in Badung. The gang arrested the victim and forced him to transfer IDR 3.5 billion worth of crypto assets to their accounts, using firearms, knives, and hammers.

To support the effectiveness of patrols, all members of the Task Force will be equipped with safety vests and body cameras. They will patrol using two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles at ten points prone to violations, namely North Kuta (Canggu), Seminyak, Kerobokan, Matahari Terbit and Benoa Ports, Pecatu (Uluwatu, Banin), Mertasari Beach, Kuta District, Gianyar (Ubud), Nusa Dua, and Jimbaran.
