The Acting President Of Myanmar, The Choice Of The Military Junta, Dies After A Declining Sickness
JAKARTA - Myanmar President Myint Swe's acting (Plt) has died after suffering from chronic illness. Swe has been in power since the military junta seized power from Aung San Suu Kyi's elected government.
Citing AFP, the military report said Swe was reported to have died on Thursday, August 7. He died at the age of 74.
Swe's death came more than a year after he was not active in carrying out his presidential duties because he was announced ill.
Swe is in critical condition and receiving intensive care at a military hospital in Naypyitaw since July 24, 2024.
State media announced Myint Swe was suffering from neurological disorders and peripheral neuropathy disease, which prevented her from doing normal daily activities, including eating.
A few days later after being declared in a Christian condition, Swe authorized Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, head of military rule, to carry out his presidency duties while he was on sick leave.
Myint Swe has served as Acting President of Myanmar since February 1, 2021, after the military seized power of elected government by arresting former President Win Myint along with Myanmar's supreme leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.
