BI Governor Reveals the Importance of MSMEs for Indonesian Economy
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo revealed three main reasons why Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in the national economy.
He stated that first, there are 65 million MSMEs operating in Indonesia and actively contributing to national economic growth.
Perry added that second, MSMEs are highly resilient and competitive, even amidst uncertain global conditions.
"MSMEs are always resilient. Especially now that global conditions are fluctuating, MSMEs will continue to thrive," he said at the Opening Ceremony of Karya Kreatif Indonesia 2025, Thursday, August 7.
Perry added that third, the majority of MSMEs are women, who are not only drivers of the local economy but also the mainstay of their families' economies.
Furthermore, Perry stated that to date, 57 million people have used the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), and approximately 39.3 million are MSMEs.
"This proves that MSMEs can go digital and penetrate markets, not only locally but also for export. We have already connected (QRIS) with Malaysia and Singapore, and God willing, our QRIS will be accepted in Japan and China by the end of the year," he said.
