PLN's REC Sales Reach 13.68 TWh in the First Half of 2025
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) reported that interest in its Green as a Service (GEAS) Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) service has grown, reaching 13.68 terrawatt hours (TWh) by June 2025, a 14 percent year-on-year increase compared to the same period in 2024.
For your information, REC is one of PLN's innovative green product instruments to facilitate customers' transparent, accountable, and internationally recognized recognition for their use of renewable energy (EBT). The price per REC unit, or 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh), is only IDR 35,000.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that since its launch in 2020, REC sales have continued to record significant growth, reaching 13.68 Terrawatt-hours (TWh) by June 2025. He detailed that sales in 2021 reached 308,610 Megawatt-hours (MWh) and jumped significantly to 1,762,953 MWh in 2022.
"It then increased by more than 100 percent in 2023, reaching 3,543,638 MWh, followed by 5,382,245 MWh in 2024, and by the first semester of 2025, REC sales reached 2,689,117 MWh," he said on Thursday, August 7.
He stated that interest in REC green electricity services from industrial and business customers will continue to increase in the coming periods.
"More and more companies, both domestic and international, are entrusting their green electricity supply to PLN's REC. Therefore, we are optimistic that this green electricity service will continue to grow," he explained.
Darmawan explained that currently, 10 PLN power plants supply green electricity to REC customers. The eight plants are the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), the Ulubelu Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), the Ulumbu Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), the Cirata Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), the Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), the Orya Genyem Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), the Saguling Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), the Mrica Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), and the Lambur Mini-Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTM).
A number of well-known corporate customers such as PT Cheil Jedang Indonesia, Nike, PT Asahimas Chemical, PT South Pasific Vincose, PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk, PT Air Liquide Indonesia, PT Smelting, PT Ceria Metalindo Prima, PT Frisian Flag Indonesia, PT Ajinomoto Indonesia, and PT HM Sampoerna Tbk have used PLN's green electricity.
