Restaurant Polemic And Cafe Billed By Music Royalty, Ikke Nurjanah: LMKN Not Rigid
JAKARTA - Riots in talks about music royalties in business and entertainment sectors have become interesting discourse. There is also the anxiety of business owners who feel they are still lay with this matter.
In the context of enforcing Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, 14 sectors including Horeca, bars and music concerts are required to pay the performance rights of the music that is played. The amount has also been determined in the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number HKI.02/2016 as follows:
Restaurants and cafes
Royalty of the creator's rights: IDR 60,000 per seat/year Riyalti related rights: IDR 60,000 per seat/year
Pub, Bar, and Bistro
Royalty of creator rights: IDR 180,000 per m2 / year Riyalti related rights: IDR 180,000 per m2 / year
Discotheques And Night Clubs
Royalty of the creator's rights: IDR 250,000 per m2 / year Riyalti related rights: IDR 180,000 per m2 / year

The above figures may be burdensome for some business owners such as cafes and restaurants. This amount does not include occupancy and ups and downs of business flows.
However, according to the LMKN commissioner, Ikke Nurjanah, this amount can be adjusted to the conditions that occur in the field. There will be discussions and field reviews that will be conducted before the collection of royalties from users (in this case, business owners).
"We don't expect royalties to be highly adapted to user conditions. Because of the occupancy and conditions in the field, they know. We are not stiff, we are very open to suggestions," said Ikke Nurjanah when contacted by VOI by telephone, August 6.
In the 10 years of implementing music royalties in 14 business sectors, LMKN still needs to improve in various aspects. Starting from internal-external socialization, the development of systems and detection tools is expected to have a more impact on musicians and songwriters.
"Socialization needs to be done from the internal first, before going outside. For outdoor socialization, we usually tandem with DJKI and fellow musicians," he added.
