Applying For Work Through Advertising On Facebook, Three Candidates For Crew Members Are Even Captivated By TIP Syndicate

JAKARTA - Three prospective crew members from Majalengka are suspected of being victims of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta.

The three victims named Richi Andrea (20), Ahmad Syawaludin (17), and Ryan Hidayat (20) managed to save themselves after previously being held captive by a gang of illegal work dealers.

The three victims were held captive after being deceived by applying for work as prospective crew members (ABK) through social media Facebook.

According to Richi's statement, the confinement incident began when they saw job vacancies as crew members from their Facebook accounts.

"Initially, from Facebook he was invited by friends to be greeted at home, he said he wanted to work in Jakarta or become a crew member in Muara Baru, he said it was a four-month contract," Richi admitted to reporters, Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In the job vacancies (loops) advertised on Facebook, the salary value is around Rp. 6 million. The three victims, who were previously just buskers, finally ventured to apply and come to North Jakarta.

Arriving in Jakarta, they were placed in a three-meter mess filled by dozens of other crew candidates.

"When I first arrived, 15 people were in the room," he said.

However, after staying in the mess, it turned out that the movement of the three was limited and always monitored. In fact, when they want to go to the shop, the candidates for crew members are followed by the messkeeper.

"He has been arrested on the mes, he can't go out, just go to the shop, followed by him. Approximately four days in prison," he said.

There are about four people who are always on standby to guard the mess. The guards always hold the sickle just in case.

Furthermore, on the second day the three victims stayed in the mess, they had begun to be told to work to prepare supplies of ships to depart.

However, the three were warned by brokers who took them to Jakarta not to ask the workers there anything.

Out of curiosity about the clarity of his work contract, the victim finally ventured to ask one of the crew members.

"When I was on the ship, I asked 'Bang, how many contracts are there?' It turned out that he said this was a one-year contract," said the victim.

Hearing this, the victim was shocked. The three of them also asked for a 4-month contract according to what was proposed by the three victims.

Richie said, from the promised Rp 6 million salary, it turned out that Rp 3 million was cut for broker services and the rest was used to buy their own fishing rods.

Because, when going to sea, the crew members must capitalize on fishing gear for Rp. 6 million first.

"So, he (ABK) on the ship said, I don't know if you can go home with money or not, because buying a fishing rod is still less than Rp. 3 million," complained the victim.

The victim tried to clarify his work contract to the broker. However, the candidate was reluctant to provide a detailed explanation and asked RH to just follow the activities on board as an experience.

Calo also asked the ABK candidates to pay a fine of Rp. 2 million if they do not go to sea.

Hearing this strange thing, the three victims finally decided to escape from the illegal work distribution mess. They fled behind a mess that happened to be Pluit Reservoir.

"The supervisors are in front, if it's difficult to pass through the front, the only time is through the edge, when it's stuck on the edge, yes, it's over time," he said.

After swimming for a long time and seeing a building, finally one of the victims tried to get on the mainland and asked for help.

Incidentally, on top of the building, the Deputy RT 19, RW 17, Muara Baru, was sitting down. He was surprised because suddenly from below the Pluit Reservoir someone asked for help.

Finally, he called the local youth to save the three victims Richi Andrea, Ahmad Syawaludin, and Ryan Hidayat. Currently, the three victims have been arrested by local residents.
