Need To Pay Rents, Traders Steal Cakung Musala Charity Box Money

JAKARTA - A man is desperate to steal money in a charity box in the Kampung Jembatan area, Cakung District, North Jakarta.

The perpetrator was desperate to steal because of the urgency of living necessities to pay rent. The perpetrator's actions were caught on CCTV cameras.

"When I saw CCTV, now in CCTV it looks like someone took it," said the head of the prayer room, Kosim to reporters, Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In the camera footage, a man can be seen stealing charity money worth IDR 750 thousand.

The perpetrator stole from two charity boxes in the prayer room. After stealing, the perpetrator was finally arrested by residents based on the characteristics that had been known.

"So at first there was a congregation of mine who wanted to pray, he saw the box usually in one plot, I didn't know the box was in a corner," he said.

The perpetrator is known to be a cilok merchant. The perpetrator also has a wife and two children. The perpetrator committed the theft because of economic pressure for the family.

Although the perpetrator was arrested, the case then led to restorative justice or peace.
