Cycling from Jakarta to Merauke, Taufik Abriansyah Reports to Central PWI

JAKARTA – After completing a 2,700-kilometer cycling expedition from Bandung to Merauke over 56 days, senior journalist and cyclist Taufik Abriansyah reported directly to the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) headquarters on Wednesday, August 6, at the KAHA Plaza Building in South Jakarta.

Taufik presented a book titled "Gowes ke Merauke," which chronicles his journey across 10 provinces, 11 islands, and 68 regencies/cities, including visits to PWI offices in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Merauke, Papua.

"I was released by the PWI headquarters. Upon my return, I am required to report to the PWI Chairman, Mr. Hendry Ch. Bangun," Taufik said at a thanksgiving event and book launch held by the PWI headquarters.

Also in attendance were Secretary General of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Central Office, Iqbal Irsyad; Chairman of the Expert Council, Sayid Iskandarsyah; Treasurer Muhammad Nasir; Deputy Treasurer M. Syarwani; Cultural Commission Member, AR Loebis; Hoax Task Force Chair, Budi Nugraha; and Public Relations Officer, Edi Kuswanto.

Taufik acknowledged that the trip was more than just a physical one. He said that meeting with regional PWI officials was incredibly encouraging. "I feel very appreciated and happy," he said.

PWI Central Chairman, Hendry Ch Bangun, emphasized that this expedition demonstrates that journalists work not only through writing, but also through concrete actions that inspire solidarity and national spirit.

"This book is not just travel documentation, but also a social and spiritual reflection. Through Taufik's writing, we are invited to explore Indonesia up close—its culture, nature, and people," said Hendry Ch Bangun, PWI Chairman.
