Apple Has Sold 3 Billion iPhone Units Since 2007

JAKARTA – Apple CEO Tim Cook announced important news during the company's recent earnings call. The Apple CEO stated that they have sold 3 billion iPhones.

The 3 billionth iPhone was officially sold in the third quarter of this year. This achievement means Apple has sold 3 billion iPhones since the phone was introduced in 2007. This took the company approximately 18 years.

While this seems like a long time, this sales figure is significantly faster than the previous year. In fact, the jump from 2 billion to 3 billion units is more noticeable because it was a shorter time compared to the transition from 1 billion to 2 billion.

Apple first sold 1 billion iPhones in July 2016, approximately 9 years after the first iPhone was released. The transition from 1 billion to 2 billion units was reached in September 2021. This means it took Apple five years to sell 1 billion more units.

Instead of five years, Apple managed to sell another 1 billion units in just four years. This represents a significant increase over time. It is possible that Apple could reach sales of 4 billion units in less than four years.

Sales Target of 4 Billion Units

It's uncertain whether Apple will sell four billion iPhones by the time the phone celebrates its 20th anniversary. This could be achieved if the company manages to compete with Samsung or other popular phones.

This will, of course, be influenced by the performance and features offered by the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18. Apple will need to offer more advanced camera features, better iOS customization, and a more affordable price to attract more consumers.

Apple Intelligence could also be a major draw for the new iPhones if the features offered can compete with Galaxy AI and other Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems from Android OEMs. Furthermore, Apple will rely on the promise of a more advanced Siri.

This virtual assistant has been highly anticipated, as the iPhone is expected to become more sophisticated thanks to Siri. Along with the launch of the latest API, the iPhone 17 series is also expected to be Apple's latest, more advanced device.
