Profile Of Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, Deputy Chief Of Police New Professor Of Author 27 Books

YOGYAKARTA - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) again experienced rotation and mutation of a number of high-ranking officers on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. One of them is the appointment of the Police Commissioner General (Komjen Pol) Dedi Prasetyo as Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri), replacing Komjen (Ret.) Ahmad Dofiri, who had entered retirement at the end of last June.

The appointment of Komjen Dedi Prasetyo as Deputy Chief of Police by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has received the blessing of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. This appointment is contained in a Telegram Letter numbered ST/1764/VIII/KEP./2025 signed by the Assistant Chief of Police for Human Resources, Inspector General Anwar.

Komjen Dedi Prasetyo is not a foreign name in the National Police. He is known as a general figure, not only has he filled a number of strategic positions but is also classy in the academic field.

Dedi Prasetyo was born in Magetan, East Java, on July 26, 1968. He studied at the Armed Forces Academy of the Republic of Indonesia (Akabri) in 1990, which at that time still included education for the military, police, and other batches before the institutions were separated.

Dedi then continued his studies at the College of Police Science (PTIK) in 1991. His enthusiasm for learning led him to a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctoral degree, until 2022 he was awarded the title of professor.

Komjen Dedi Prasetyo became one of the few high-ranking police officers who successfully won the title of professor.

Dedi Prasetyo's professional career began as Kaurbinopsnal of the Lamongan Police Satreskrim under the East Java Regional Police. He was later trusted to serve as Serpong Police Chief in the jurisdiction of the Polda Metro Jaya in 1997.

Since then, Dedi Prasetyo's career path has continued to climb. He has held positions as Kasatreskrim Polrestabes Surabaya (2007), Kapolres Kediri Kota (2008), Kapolres Lumajang (2009), and Deputy Chief of Police of Central Kalimantan (2012).

In 2014, Dedi was withdrawn to the National Police Headquarters to handle the field of human resources. He was then assigned as Karopenmas of the Public Relations Division of the National Police (2018), a strategic position that made him the face of the National Police in public.

Not long ago, Dedi was appointed as Karobinkar SSDM Polri (2019), then returned to the field as the Head of the Central Kalimantan Police (2020). In 2021, he was again summoned to the National Police Headquarters to occupy the position of Head of the Public Relations Division of the Police.

In February 2023, Dedi was trusted as Assistant Chief of Police for Human Resources. A year later, he was appointed as Inspector of General Supervision (Irwasum) of the National Police, along with promotion to become Commissioner General (star three). From Irwasum, he is now trusted to accompany the National Police Chief as Deputy Chief of Police.

Apart from operational and administrative tasks, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo is also known as an active writer. He is listed as the MURI record holder for the category of high-ranking police officers who have written the most books since 2024.

Until that year, he had written 27 books themed by the police, law, to reform human resources management. Several works by Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, namely Terrorism Radicalism and Deradicalization in Indonesia, Precision Script to Build Police: Collaboration in Police Technical Thoughts, Police Science and Technology, and most recently Guidelines for the Implementation of the Police Free Nutrition Eating Program.

The book Radicalism of Terrorism and Deradicalization in Indonesia was even used as a reference for reading by a number of ambassadors of friendly countries.

His literacy work shows that Dedi is not only a practitioner, but also a thinker who encourages the institutional reform of the Police from an intellectual perspective. This makes him a rare figure in the police who is able to combine academic intelligence with field experience.
