Important Events In August 1945 As A Moment Of Indonesian History

YOGYAKARTA - August became an important historical moment of struggle for the Indonesian people. There were several important events in August 1945 that brought Indonesia to the gates of independence.

Indonesia has been independent for almost 76 years. In early August 1945, Indonesia was still under Japanese rule. The leaders of freedom fighters still determine various ways to realize their noble ideals.

World War II, which occurred from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945, was a gap for the figure of freedom fighters to release the Indonesian people from the grip of the invaders. Japan's defeat of the Allies is also one of the loopholes for Indonesia's independence.

Below are some important events in August 1945 that occurred in the history of the independence struggle of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).

On August 6, 1945, at 08:15 local time, an atomic bomb crashed from the United States Enola Gay B-29 plane on Hiroshima. The atomic bomb explosion, known as Little Boy, claimed thousands of lives. The number of people who died reached approximately 140 thousand people from the total population at that time was 350 thousand people.

Three days after the atomic bomb incident, on August 9, 1945, at 11.02 local time, the United States again dropped an atomic bomb in Japan, in the city of haram. A total of 74 thousand people lost their lives due to this explosion. In an interview with the BBC, photojournary journalist Lee Karen Myr revealed that the HUMAN bomb explosion occurred very quickly. He even witnessed people suffer serious injuries due to the effects of the atomic bomb.

Six days after the bomb tragedy, Japan declared its unconditional surrender to the Allies. Japan's defeat was announced by Japanese Emperor Hirohita at the national radio station. Japan's unconditional surrender was the final marker of World War II.

Information about Japan's defeat to the Allies prompted the youth and figures of Indonesian independence fighters to immediately prepare for the proclamation of independence. The Investigating Agency for the Preparation of Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI) formed by the Japanese government on April 29, 1945, was dissolved on August 7, 1945.

The dissolution of BPUPKI then changed with the Indonesian Independence Preparation Committee (PPKI). PPKI is tasked with preparing everything related to the independence plan including making, compiling, and passing the 1945 Constitution.

Japan's defeat is also a motivation for young group leaders such as Soekarno, Wikana and his friends to urge Soekarno and Hatta to immediately declare independence. However, the old group, namely Soekarno and Hatta, are still reluctant to declare independence.

Then, based on discussions among the young, right on August 16 in the morning they kidnapped Soekarno and Hatta to be secured to Rengasdengklok. This kidnapping was carried out with the aim of preventing Soekarno and Hatta or known as old-class figures from Japanese influence.

On August 17, Bung Karno accompanied by Bung Hatta proclaimed the independence of the Republic of Indonesia which began at 10.00. The proclamation manuscript, which has been compiled at the house of the Japanese Imperial Navy officer, Admiral Maeda, is proclaimed at Soekarno's residence, precisely on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur Number 56 Central Jakarta.

The day after the proclamation of independence, on August 18, PPKI enacted and passed the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia or the 1945 Constitution. The Constitution is valid as the constitution of the Republic of Indonesia through the decision of the PPKI session.

Another important event in August was the establishment of the Central Indonesian National Committee (KNIP), precisely on August 29. KNIP is an Assistant Presidential Body tasked with assisting the president in exercising legislative power before the formation of the MPR and DPR is carried out.
