Thanks To Smart Watches, Google Is Able To Improve Android Security

JAKARTA - Google has just announced an upgrade to Android security features through the Android Identity Check system which now supports smartwatches as part of two-factor authentication. With this feature, users can bypass the biometric process if the system detects a coupled smartwatch near the device.

Smartphones now store important data such as photos, digital documents, and personal files. Therefore, a strong but still practical security system is needed. Android Identity Check is here as a solution to provide additional protection, especially when the device is outside the safe zone.

Previously, this feature only relied on trusted locations to bypass authentication. However, in the latest beta version, Google has enabled the ability to verify smartwatches as a trusted data source. That is, if a watch is detected near the device, the system will automatically bypass biometric authentication.

Smart Watch Is The Key To New Security

With this update, smartwatches serve as trusted signals in Android security systems. This allows the device to open without the need for fingerprints or face scanners, as long as a paired watch is detected around.

However, there are concerns regarding the theft scenario, where both cell phones and watches could be stolen simultaneously. Even so, Google is reportedly developing a second version of Identity Check which will provide feature expansion and increased security, without compromising user comfort.
