Lion Air Passenger Says There Was A Bomb On The Plane Already A Suspect

JAKARTA The police officially named H (42) as a suspect for alleged bomb threats on the Lion Air JT-308 flight on the Jakarta-Kualanamu route. The suspect is now facing legal proceedings after his actions caused panic on the plane.

The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief, Kombes Ronald Sipayung, explained that H had been named a suspect for mentioning a bomb on the plane, which violated Article 437 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2009 concerning Aviation.

"Everyone is prohibited from submitting false information that endangers flight safety. The maximum penalty is eight years in prison," Ronald said in Tangerang, Monday, August 4, 2025.

The perpetrator was named a suspect after undergoing a number of examinations carried out by joint officers.

Previously, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Security Authority (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten, had secured a passenger on the Lion Air JT-308 flight on the Jakarta-Kualanamu route, Deli Serdang, who claimed to be carrying a bomb on the plane.

He said the security process for passengers who confessed and shouted for bombs in the Lion Air cabin was carried out on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the night after the incident.
