MBG Poisoning In Kupang, SPPG Can Be Sanctioned After Food Safety Data Comes Out

The National Nutrition Agency stated that it would impose sanctions on the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit after it received data that was confirmed that caused hundreds of students of SMP Negeri 8 Kupang to be affected by food safety incidents in Free Nutrition Food.

"Of course sanctions can be given after the data has been confirmed what is the cause of the food safety incident," said Deputy for Systems and Governance of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Tigor Pangaribuan in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Monday. August 4th.

He said this during a press conference at SMP Negeri 8 Kupang City, which was related to the food safety incident on July 22, 2025, which resulted in hundreds of children being poisoned due to consumption of Free Nutrition Food (MBG).

If an overall investigation is carried out and an error is still found, he said, it could have an impact on the change of personnel in the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG).

"Earlier we were from the SPPG and saw firsthand and asked them to improve the system, otherwise further warnings would be given," he said.

Regarding compensation for children affected by the MBG food safety incident, Tigor said he had coordinated with the Principal of SMP Negeri 8 Maria Rosalina to find out whether anyone was still being treated or not.

"Earlier I asked the principal regarding the condition of the children, and the principal answered that most of the children had recovered but there were still people taking outpatient treatment," he said.

BGN, he said, would discuss what kind of compensation would be given to parents and children affected by the food safety incident.

"We also apologize to the teachers, because the incident also bothered to accompany students at the hospital," he said.
