ESG Is Not Just A Commitment, PGN Proves It Through Real Actions

JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) as Pertamina's Gas Subholding has again received an award for its commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in order to encourage energy transition and environmental sustainability. This time PGN received appreciation at the 2025 Energy and Mineral Festival by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) together with B Universe in the ESG Initiative category.

One of them is the PGN initiative in the environmental sector through the Alert Farmer's program, namely rubber replanting activities, optimizing the use of environmentally friendly fertilizers, and implementing forest fire risk mitigation programs. This program has had a significant impact in the Pagardewa area, South Sumatra, where rubber plantations accompanied by PGN are able to absorb up to 4.56 tons of carbon per hectare per year.

"This program not only strengthens the resilience of the surrounding community, but also directly contributes to national decarbonization efforts," said PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, Rosa Permata Sari, in a statement, Monday, August 4.

PGN consistently supports community-based energy development through its involvement in the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) program. DEB itself is Pertamina's initiative which until 2025 has involved more than 200 villages throughout Indonesia, in order to encourage local energy independence. Utilization of renewable energy by rural communities through DEB is able to reduce carbon emissions by 729,493 tons of CO2 equivalent.

Not only that, as a comprehensive ESG commitment, PGN places the principles of good corporate governance (GCG) as the main foundation in every business process and strategic decision making. PGN believes that the application of strong governance principles and integrity is an important factor in building sustainable value that is beneficial for companies, shareholders, communities, business partners, and all stakeholders.

Furthermore, Rosa explained that PGN's success in the ESG agenda was also inseparable from the main role of natural gas as the company's core commodity.

"Earth gas as the main commodity in PGN's business plays an important role in reducing carbon emissions, because its characteristics are cleaner than other fossil energy sources such as coal and petroleum. Therefore, one tangible form of our contribution is through the development of a gas network (Jargas) that expands public access to clean energy," he added.

The acceptance of this ESG appreciation reinforces PGN's role as the main driver in supporting the energy transition in Indonesia. By continuing to prioritize the principle of sustainability in all operational lines, PGN is committed to continuing to be part of the solution towards a clean, inclusive, and sustainable energy future.
