Drunk, Australian Steals Balinese Car and Sets It on Fire

DENPASAR - An Australian citizen with the initials RJW is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, leading him to steal a Balinese resident's car, hit two pedestrians, and then set the stolen vehicle on fire.

"The preliminary suspicion is that the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol," said Acting Head of Public Relations for the Badung Police, First Inspector Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, on Monday, August 4.

The perpetrator is currently being held at the North Kuta Police Station for further questioning regarding his actions.

"The North Kuta Police are still handling the matter," she said.

The Balinese resident's car, stolen by an Australian, was found burned to the ground on Buana Raya Street Denpasar, West Denpasar District, Denpasar City, on Sunday, August 3, at around 5:30 a.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time).

The Australian stole the parked car belonging to IWK, a resident of Kerobokan Klod Village. The perpetrator forced the victim out of the car.

The car was then taken away. On the way, the perpetrator hit two people.

When searched, the car was found burned to a crisp on Jalan Buana Raya, West Denpasar District.
