Microsoft Stop Supports Windows 11 SE Update

JAKARTA Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 11 SE, the operating system (OS) designed for cheap laptops from the company. This termination will take place in October 2026.

The OS was just launched five years ago to compete with Chromebooks from Google. Windows 11 SE is only available on laptops designed for educational needs so that people have alternatives other than ChromeOS-based laptops.

Unfortunately, this innovation didn't work. In a support article found by Dr.Windows, Microsoft confirmed that it would stop all matters related to Windows 11 SE, including software updates and technical support.

"While your device will still work, we suggest switching to devices that support other Windows 11 editions to ensure sustainable support and security," Microsoft wrote.

Thus, Microsoft will not release a 25H2 update for Windows 11 SE. The last software that the OS will use is 24H2 and this support will end next year.

There are many laptop brands that support Windows 11 SE, including Acer, Asus, Dell, and HP, which have released devices with Windows 11 SE. In fact, Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop SE at affordable prices. All of these devices will be affected.

This decision is in line with the emergence of news of a decline in the Chromebook trend in the market. Reports from Gartner show that Chromebook shipments have decreased since 2022 so Microsoft wants to focus on increasing Windows 11 regularly.
