PBB: 68 Killed And 74 Others Missing After The Ship Transported Migrants In Yemeni Waters

JAKARTA - The UN migration agency revealed that one unit of the ship had an accident off the coast of Yemen killed at least 68 migrants, while the other 74 were still missing.

"At this stage, the deaths of 27 people have been confirmed, their bodies have been found," said a local security source, Sunday, August 3 local time, quoted from AFP.

He added that search operations for dozens of missing migrants had been carried out by local authorities together with the UN migration agency.

While the second source said 150 migrants were inside the shipwreck, while the death toll was 27.

A police source said the ship was originally heading to the coast of Abyan Province.

" smuggler ships [migrants] regularly arrive in our territory," the police said.

The security directorate of Abyan province said in a statement that it is currently conducting a massive operation to find the bodies of most of the Ethiopian migrants (Oromo).

"They drowned off the coast of Abyan while trying to enter Yemeni territory illegally," the statement continued.

"Many bodies have been found on various beaches, suggesting that a number of victims are still missing at sea," the statement said.
