8 Prisoners Of Prisons And Detention Centers In Southeast Sulawesi Get Amnesty From President Prabowo

A total of eight inmates of the Correctional Institution (Lapas) and the State Detention Center (Rutan) in Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra) received amnesty from the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Prabowo Subianto.

Head of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) Sultra Sulardi when met in Kendari, Sunday, said that the eight people came from Kendari Prison one person, Baubau Prison one person, Kendari Women's Prison one person, Unaaha Rutan two people, and three inmates from the Kolaka Detention Center who had been released before the Presidential Decree (Kepres) related to the amnesty decreased.

"Of the total 1,178 names listed in the Presidential Decree, eight of them are inmates in prisons and detention centers in the Southeast Sulawesi region," said Sulardi.

He said of the eight people who received the amnesty, five people were declared free because of the decision, while the other three people were released before the Presidential Decree was issued.

Sulardi revealed that the granting of this amnesty is a form of pardon from the state to certain inmates, taking into account aspects of humanity and justice.

"Then also the inmates who were released have shown good behavior, actively follow the coaching program, and are considered worthy of accepting forgiveness in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," he explained.

He conveyed that based on the Presidential Decree, the granting of amnesty to the eight inmates abolished all legal consequences for the convicts. Therefore, the inmates who receive amnesty can be immediately released without conditions.

"The happy and grateful faces radiated from the faces of the inmates. The recipients of the amnesty expressed their gratitude and gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who had given them the opportunity to return sooner with their families," he said.

Sulardi explained that before receiving amnesty, the inmates had gone through an assessment process and met the various criteria that had been set. This policy is part of the Acceleration Program of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto, in overcoming the problem of residential density in prisons and detention centers.

It is known that the granting of this amnesty is based on the Presidential Decree (Keppres) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2025 which is set on August 1, 2025.
