Lion Air Passengers Who Threat Bombs Are Still Being Routinely Investigated By The Joint Team

JAKARTA - Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Security Authority (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten, has secured a passenger on the Lion Air JT-308 flight on the Jakarta-Kualanamu route, Deli Serdang, who claimed to have brought a bomb on the plane.

Currently, he said, the person concerned is in the process of being investigated by the investigating team of the Airport Police and Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) of the International Airport Security Authority (Otban) Soetta.

"Investigators from the Airport Police and PPNS Otban are still in the process of examining the person concerned," he said.

He said the security process for passengers who confessed and shouted for bombs in the Lion Air cabin was carried out on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the night after the incident.

"From last night, it has been jointly handled by a joint team of Otban civil servant investigators and airport police investigators," he said.

Ronald said that his party continues to carry out stages of investigations and investigations so that incidents that disturb passengers do not happen again.

"For criminal sanctions, of course there are. However, in this case, after the examination process, it will be conveyed more clearly," he said.

Previously, a viral video on social media (medsos) related to a snippet of a passenger on the Lion Air plane on the Jakarta-Kualanamu route who went berserk and shouted that there was a bomb in the aircraft cabin.

This was conveyed by one of the passengers as a form of protest against the plane he was traveling in late.

With his actions, Lion Air crew took a return to apron (RTA) or procedure to return the plane to the apron for security checks.

Meanwhile, Corporate Communications Strategic of Lion Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, clarified the incident.

Lion Air Group management said that when the position of the Boeing 737-9 aircraft registered PK-LRH carrying 184 passengers had pushed back, one of the male passengers with the initials H conveyed information about a bomb to the cabin crew.

"All departure procedures run normally until the plane completes the push back process (resigning from the parking position) and preparing to go to taxiway (connect road)," he said.

However, he said, according to flight safety procedures, cabin crew confirmed the threat of bombs carried out by passengers.

According to him, the statement made after the aircraft door was closed was categorized as RTA or the procedure for returning the plane to the apron for security checks.

"As a security measure, his party immediately returned the plane to the apron area (RTA)," he said.

Meanwhile, for passengers with the initials H who informed that the threat of the bomb was lowered and handed over to the authorities, namely airport security officers (avidiation security), the Airport Authority, PPNS and the police for further investigations and processes in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

"All passengers, baggage and luggage were lowered and re-examined by airport security officers," he said.

The results of the examination ensure that suspicious or dangerous objects were not found. Although as a follow-up step, Lion Air's flight was continued to prepare another aircraft to replace the Boeing 737-900ER registration PK-LSW on the same day.

"The JT-308 flight then departed again on the same day Saturday (2/08) and landed at Kualanamu International Airport," he said.
