Not Europe, The World's Best Restaurant 2025 Is In Latin America
JAKARTA - Two restaurants located in Lima, Peru managed to enter the top 10 of the 2025 World's Best Restaurants, one of which managed to become the best to beat restaurants from various parts of the world.
In an award event in Turin, Italy, Maido, who is in the capital city of Peru, became the best restaurant in 2025. The restaurant owned and managed by Chef Mitshiharu "Micha" Tsumura was ranked fifth last year.
Maido serves what is known as Nikkei cuisine, "combining Japanese techniques with vibrant Peruvian ingredients to create culturally rich and modern dining experiences innovatively," according to The World's 50 Best Restaurant, quoted by CNN Aug. 1.
When he received the Tsumura award, he said this happened when Maido celebrated his 16th birthday this year.
"I think cooking skills and hospitality can do extraordinary things. They can make dreams come true," he said.
Complementing the top five lists of the best restaurants in the world this year, there were Asador Etxebarri in Spain's Atxondo (second position), Quintonil Mexico City, Diverxo Madrid andINKenhagen alkemists.
In sixth place is Gaggan in Bangkok. The capital city of Thailand controlled this year's list with six restaurants on the top 50 list.
In seventh place is Sézanne Tokyo, followed by Table by Bruno Verjus Paris, Kjole in Lima and Don Julio in Buenos Aires which completes the top 10 rankings.
Meanwhile, Uncle Sam's country only has one representative on this year's list via New York's Atomicix which is ranked 12.
Restaurants with the most significant increase this year were obtained by Ikoyi London, from being ranked 42 last year to 27 this year.

It is known, this annual list was compiled based on the World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy voting consisting of more than 1,100 international restaurant industry experts including food and chefs, in 28 regions around the world.
Restaurants can only win the grand prize once, after that they enter the separate "Best of the Best" program.
Members of the elite group include geranium and noma in Copenhagen, as well as Eleven Madison Park in New York, The Fat Duck near London, Osteria totala in Modena, Italy to Mirazur in Menton, France and the winner of the Barcelona Disfrutar year.
