The Majority Of Big Cities In Indonesia Are Expected To Be Raining Today, BMKG Urges To Be Alert
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that most major cities in Indonesia will experience rain on Sunday, with variations in intensity from light to heavy accompanied by lightning.
BMKG forecaster, Satriana Roguna, in a weather report broadcast on the official BMKG YouTube channel on Sunday morning, said that light rain is likely to occur in several major cities in Sumatra, such as Medan (North Sumatra), Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Palembang (South Sumatra), and Bandar Lampung.
"Several areas in Sumatra have the potential to experience light rain, including Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung," explained Satriana, as quoted by ANTARA.
On the island of Java, similar conditions are expected to occur in Jakarta, Bandung (West Java), Semarang (Central Java), Yogyakarta, and Surabaya (East Java). Light rain is also predicted to flush Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara), Palangka Raya (Central Kalimantan), Samarinda (East Kalimantan), Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan), and Kendari (North Sulawesi).
For eastern Indonesia, the potential for light rain is observed in several cities such as Ternate (North Maluku), Ambon (Maluku), Manokwari (West Papua), Nabire (Central Papua), Jayawijaya (Lungungung Papua), and Merauke (South Papua).

Meanwhile, rain with moderate intensity is predicted to hit Palu (Central Sulawesi) and Sorong (West West Papua).
BMKG also reminded the public to increase awareness of the possibility of heavy rain accompanied by lightning or lightning. In Sumatra, heavy rains have the potential to occur in Bengkulu and Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands). Meanwhile, in Kalimantan, similar conditions are expected to hit Pontianak (West Kalimantan) and Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan).
In Mamuju (West Sulawesi), heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds also has the potential to occur.
Cloudy weather is predicted to cover a number of other areas. In Sumatra, this condition is predicted to occur in Banda Aceh, Padang, Pekanbaru, and Jambi. On the island of Java, thick cloudy skies have the potential to appear in Serang (Banten).
