Megawati: PDI-P Will Be A Critical Balancer Under President Prabowo's Government
JAKARTA - The Chairperson of the PDI-P, Megawati Soekarnoputri, stated that she would not take a position as an opposition coalition in President Prabowo Subianto's government. This is because the PDI-P under his leadership will act as a constitutional balancer critical of government policies.
The statement was made when he gave his political speech at the closing of the PDIP VI Congress in Nusa Dua, Bali.
"We are an ideological party, which stands on the truth, sided with the people, and takes a firm stance as an equalizer in order to keep the direction of national development in line with the constitution and the interests of the people," said Megawati, Saturday, August 2.
"We are not in the cabinet, but also do not choose the opposition path. Our role is to ensure that national development remains on the edge of the constitution," he continued.
The PDI-P will support President Prabowo's pro-people policies, but will be critical and firm against any deviation from the values of Pancasila, social justice, and applicable laws.
"We will speak out loud if there is a policy that is not in accordance with the mandate of the suffering of the people," said Megawati.
The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia reminded that party alignment is not determined by the position inside or outside the government, but rather at the truth and political morality taught by the nation's founder, Soekarno.

"The PDI-P will continue to be the pioneer of the people's struggle," he said.
The determination of the PDIP position in the current government is due to frequent misunderstandings related to Indonesian democracy. The presidential government system, as adopted by Indonesia, is not known as the opposition and coalition as in the parliamentary system.
"Indonesia's democracy is not a democracy for the blocks of power, but a democracy that relies on people's sovereignty and the constitution," said Megawati.
