Megawati Is Firm, PDIP's Stance Is To Balance, Not To Act As An Opposition Or Coalition
JAKARTA - PDIP Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri has officially stated her party's position in the Prabowo Subianto administration. Megawati emphasized that PDIP is not acting as an opposition or coalition party, but as a balancing party.
Megawati made this statement in her closing speech at the 6th PDIP Congress in Bali on Saturday, August 2nd.
Megawati stated that although PDIP supports the Prabowo administration's programs, it will still make corrections if there are errors in any government policies.
"At the end of my speech, I emphasized that in a presidential system, there are no terms such as opposition or coalition. Our democracy is not a democracy of power blocs, but is based on the sovereignty of the people and the constitution," Megawati said, according to online monitoring.
"That's the highest level, don't change it," she continued.
Megawati emphasized that PDIP is not positioning itself as an opposition party nor is it merely building a power coalition.
"We are an ideological party founded on truth, siding with the people, and taking a firm stance as a balancing party to ensure the direction of national development remains on track with the constitution and the interests of the people," asserted the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Megawati stated that the PDI-P will support every government policy that favors the people. However, it will also speak out and take a firm stance against any deviation from the values of Pancasila, social justice, and the mandate to alleviate suffering.
"And I would add, just laws," she said.
Megawati added that the PDI-P's support is not about being in or outside of government, but rather about truth and the political morality taught by the founding father of the nation, Bung Karno.
"And don't forget, we are all legitimate citizens of Indonesia," she concluded.
