Sidoarjo Online Driver Community Confirms Not To Follow Calls For Demonstration, Wants To Guard Government Policies
Responding to the calls for demonstrations that were being echoed by several online motorcycle taxi drivers in several areas, the Sidoarjo Online Driver Community expressly stated their stance not to participate in the action. In addition, the community that accommodates thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers in the Sidoarjo area also said that it would fully guard government policies against online transportation sector workers.
The chairman of the Sidoarjo Online Driver Community Forum, Samuel Grandi, explained that his community prefers constructive dialogue and communication pathways with the government and online motorcycle taxi application service provider companies. "We believe that the best solution can be achieved through open communication and good cooperation, not by taking to the streets to take action that has the potential to cause instability and unrest in the community," he said when met at the community office, Friday (2/8).
According to the Chairman of URC Drive Online, Iyan/Babe, so far the government has issued a number of policies that actually support the welfare of online drivers, including setting fairer rates, providing social protection in the form of health insurance and accidents, as well as various supporting facilities that encourage improving service quality. These policies are clear evidence that the government is paying attention to our needs, and we also hope that all drivers in Sidoarjo can jointly support these positive steps for mutual progress, but there are several things that need to be improved in the latest Ojol Bill, "added Iyan.

Samuel also reminded that not all online motorcycle taxi drivers agreed with the demonstrations that were being discussed on social media and a number of other areas. According to him, this action has the potential to disrupt public order and affect public confidence in online transportation services. We invite all elements of society, especially users of online motorcycle taxi services, to maintain conduciveness and provide support and initiate government policies aimed at creating social and economic stability," he explained.
Meanwhile, several members of the community contacted agreed with this attitude. They considered that their business sustainability was very dependent on clear policies and harmonious cooperation with various related parties, not through demonstrations. We want the situation to remain conducive so that we can focus on working and meeting the needs of the family," said one of the drivers, Anik of the Gaspol Community.
This statement of attitude from the Sidoarjo Online Drivers Community is expected to provide a wider understanding to the public regarding various opinions among online motorcycle taxi drivers. In addition, they are committed to continuing to be government partners in supporting the development and growth of the digital economy sector which is inclusive and sustainable.
